karsonheadshot WIC Nutrition Buzz: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Here?s Karson from Karson and Kennedy in the morning to share his story about the WIC Nutrition Program:

Ever wonder why you see so much pink every October? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! You can help yourself or someone you love to lower their risk of breast cancer by:

  • Creating an early detection plan.?Perform routine breast exams.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of breast cancer.
  • Moving. Being physically active for 2 ? hours a week may help lower your risk of breast cancer. Exercising will also help you reach and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Breast feeding your baby. Breastfeeding has been shown to help protect against breast cancer. The longer you breastfeed, the lower your risk of breast cancer.
  • Limiting alcohol. Alcohol increases your risk of breast cancer. If you drink beer, wine, or liquor, limit yourself to no more than one drink per day.

This WIC Nutrition Buzz is sponsored by the Department of Public Health?s WIC program, a nutrition and health ??program for women and families with kids under 5.? Call 1-800-WIC-1007 for more information.
