A new study has suggested that Celery and Parsley can prevent the growth of some breast cancer cells thus preventing the disease. Salman Hyder, a researcher from the University of Missouri, treated rats suffering from breast cancer with apigenin which is considerably present in celery, apples, nuts, oranges, parsley and some other products.
Those rats that were given exposure to apigenin developed fewer cancer cells comparatively. But it was also noticed that apigenin only postponed the growth of tumor, it didn?t stop the initial development of cancer cells.
Hyder said that this study can cause an impact on women opting for different HRTs (Hormone Replacement Therapies). In these therapies, some specific synthetic hormones are used which can enhance breast tumor. In the study, rats were exposed to some chemicals most frequently used in HR therapies.
Hyder said, ?Researchers have not identified a apigenin dosage for humans yet.?
But it seems that a small amount of apigenin is helpful to postpone the growth of specific cancer cells that grow because of chemicals used in HRTs.
The study was made public in Cancer Prevention Research.
